Colour is a significant element in interior design; not only is it an immediate eye catcher, it can also help open up spaces, it can effect mood, and is a key tool in decision making. Working with colour can also be quite daunting as there are so many colour combinations and schemes to work with, but there is no need to fear – follow these simple tips and introduce some colour in to your life.
When it comes to choosing a colour scheme for your home, a complementary colour scheme can be the easiest, as it pairs two opposing colours on the colour wheel, such as red and green, blue and orange, and yellow and purple. These extremely high contrast colour schemes can be introduced into the home through subtle pops of colour accented in accessories or statement pieces, or through more muted tones for a less dramatic visual. For a delicate take on the blue and orange scheme, for example, try the Oly San Francisco Diego Bed paired with muted orange accent cushions, perfectly framed by a complimentary dark blue-grey wall.
If a vibrant space is the look you’re after, adorn the walls in a strong dominant colour, and then add the contrasting colour throughout the furniture. Select more saturated colours to create a more visually stimulating space. The luxurious peacock velvet Lampert Sofa by Jonathan Adler will pop against a cool orange wallpaper for a fun yet elegant look.
Remember that these are just two small examples to use within the complimentary scheme; there are still the red and green, and yellow and purple combinations to use, so use the photos below for inspiration, and have fun experimenting!
