For those that know me, I am quite the animal lover; from stallions to deep sea creatures – I love them all! I've taken a look at interiors that incorporate animal motifs and are inspired by the world's fauna. Forget the kitsch, you can have a stylish home with animal inspired design elements. Wallpaper You can’t go past a delicate wallpaper to revamp an interior: add it to a space with neutral tones and you have yourself an eye-catcher; incorporate it in an already vibrant interior and the clashing patterns give a delicious more-is-more aesthetic – you really can’t go wrong! Porter’s Paints have an adorable Beetle wallpaper collection that is bound to get your guests talking! This print in the black will provide a luxurious finish and inject a bit of fun into the space. Another wallpaper covering I have to mention is Florence Broadhurst’ Cockatoos print – the yellow or the green are vibrant colours that are well suited for a sunny and light-filled Australian home. Furniture Leathers and furs have, for a long time, been incorporated into furniture design to offer luxury and comfort. Recently I’ve seen this on a whole new level… Jonathan Adler’s Large Mongolian Lamb Bench is an extravagant yet sophisticated piece – the plush Mongolian lamb seat is so soft to the touch, it’s like sitting on a cloud. Add this beautiful piece to the end of your bed to really glam up your boudoir! The entire Oly collection takes inspiration from nature and I love the faline collection with hoof inspired legs. Take a look at the Arthur Bench. Timothy Oulton takes animal-inspired furniture to the next level with his Riders Easy Chair; the Matador Nuez & Brown/White Moo is upholstered in leather and brown and white hide, and yes – it also features stirrup details on the sides! Faux With all of that talk about leathers, furs, and hides, I just thought I’d tell you that you don’t have to take the whole ‘animal’ inspiration too literally – some faux furs and leathers can be just as soft and durable as the real thing. Also, think about incorporating some accent cushions in an animal print; Oly San Francisco has some gorgeous faux giraffe and faux zebra prints to satisfy your wild side!
