Mirrors are one of the most versatile features in a home, as they not only help create the illusion of a more expansive space, but they also prove to be fantastic focal piece. You’ll often find this finish in an array of furniture styles, however I’ve noticed more and more innovative ways the mirror is being incorporated into the home. From mirrored walls to mirrored kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, for those wanting a functional yet design-savvy home, turn to the mirror for an interior that will create interest and elegance. Mirrored Walls If you’re stuck on what to do with bare walls, there’s nothing like the polished finish a large mirrored wall can provide. From a ‘normal’ mirror finish to a bronzed, there’s something so elegant and luxurious about the feature. For inspiration, take a look at this North London Edwardian home, which received a contemporary facelift throughout the property. Soft pinks and whites have been incorporated into the living room, complimented by a stunning bronzed mirror walls that fall either side of the fireplace, reflecting light and creating perfect symmetry in the space. The room has been minimally styled keeping in mind that the reflection of the mirror doubles every single item in the room. Another fantastic example of the application of mirrored walls is in the Potts Point Apartment by interior design practice, Burley Katon Halliday. A lesson in pure luxury, this Sydney apartment offers a living room with facing walls of mirror that create a seemingly endless depth to the room – a clear example of how effective the use of this feature can be! Mirrored Cabinetry It’s not often that you’d find this reflective finish in a kitchen – maybe a splashback, but nothing more than that. However, I have come across one incredible kitchen in particular that proves the more mirror in the kitchen, the better… Another Potts Point apartment, this time by George Livissianis, incorporated mirrored cabinetry in the kitchen to brighten up the space, which is tucked away in its own little corner. The wall of timber-framed mirrored cabinets face towards floor-to-ceiling windows in the adjacent dining area, ensuring the view can be seen even whilst preparing a delicious meal.
