Ham sandwiches don’t usually go hand-in-hand with champagne and luxurious fittings, but thanks to Lucas y Hernández-Gil, Madrid’s Bocadillo de Jamón y Champán proves otherwise. The gastronomic delight serves humble ham sandwiches and high-end champagne in an immaculately designed space that exudes luxurious sophistication. The late 19th Century Madrid building is complimented by modernist colours and shapes, which seamlessly blend the past with the present. Our friends at Pantone will be pleased: light blue adorns the ceiling and traditional carved columns, while a soft blush pink features throughout the scattered tables and stools – both of these colours featuring as Pantone’s Colour(s) of the Year for 2016. A rough light grey concrete floor grounds the space and is contrasted by a shimmering gold wall, reminiscent of champagne, fittingly lines the back of the champagne bar, which is fronted with deep blue glass feature tiles. The stunning furnishings that fill the space, such as the contemporary brass wall sconces and pendant lights, along with all of the tables and stools, were all elegantly designed by the Spanish-based design firm to allow for a seamless balance between rough and smooth, and old and new.
