Interior design is so much more than just fluffing cushions and creating the perfect colour scheme. There is a lot more subtle detail found in the architecture that can really increase the design aesthetic of an interior. Here are three of my favourite architectural details that add a whole lot of character to a home.
Bulkheads
A ceiling bulkhead is an architectural detail that I absolutely love at the moment – especially if it’s timber. There’s something about a bright, white, and light-filled space with a gorgeous timber bulkhead that catches my eye. A ceiling bulkhead is a fantastic way to draw your eye up to the ceiling – a detail that is often forgotten.
Shadowlines
For a minimalist and contemporary finish, look to shadowlines for a streamlined solution to cornices and skirtings. Although this can often be a tedious and expensive process, the results of having a clean-cut join speaks for itself!
Oversized Doors
Oversized doors in a home are a great way to maximise the height of a ceiling, creating a sense of drama and grandeur. A beautiful floor-to-ceiling pivoting door will make a statement at entry – with eyes gazed upwards, it helps create a more open and fluid space. Think about incorporating this show-stopping detail throughout the home for a truly opulent aesthetic.
